RYBA 7/8U Hybrid Travel Prep League

Registration Closes April 1st

Getting Started

  • Baseball players ages 7U-8U. Age as of May 1, 2024
    Example: Birthdate of 4/30/16 is 8U, but 5/2/16 is 7U
    8U can also be anyone currently in 2nd grade, 7U – 1 st grade
  • Baseball players who are looking to play RYBA 9U travel ball next year
  • Baseball players who are passionate, hard working, coachable, competitive, etc.
  • Need: Volunteer coaches who are looking to coach RYBA 9U travel baseball next year

Max of 4 teams (No more than 12 players on each team, total of 48 players)

  • 8U players(2 nd grade) have first priority on making a team over 7U players(1 st grade)
  • 7U players will have to tryout to make a team, if there are more than 48 total players are signed
    up. We will take the best 7U players that put the total number of players at 48.
  • Sign-ups will close if we get 48 players who are 8U
    (7U players will get refunded, if they do not make a team)

Evaluations for team placements

  • Date for evaluations: Monday, April 29 or Tuesday, April 30 (5-6:30pm or 6:30-8pm)
    12 players max for each tryout day/time, 4 slots (we will send out an email/message to set up)
  • Pitching, catching, hitting, fielding, base running, sliding/diving, etc.
  • Split teams evenly according to the best pitchers & catchers, then split up the rest of the
    players by skill level as evenly as possible

Rochester Heat Coaches Lead the Way

  • Practices: Heat coaches will help organize practices for all of the teams. They will also help
    teach coaches drills, strategy, management, organization, & anything else that comes up.
  • Game/Scrimmage Day – Heat coaches will help assist with in-game adjustments, game
    strategies, teach anything they see that is needed, pull players to the side to work on skills, etc.

Volunteer coaches on each team (3 coaches per team would be ideal)

  • Coaches who are interested in being future travel team coaches
  • Head coach & assistant coaches (1 st Base coach, 3 rd Base coach, dugout coach)
  • Coaches preseason meeting on Wednesday, May 1 from 6-8pm

Cost: $375 plus processing fee (Uniform ~$75: this will be a separate fee that will be collected later)

  • Practices – May 6, May 8, May 13
  • Instructional Scrimmages – May 15 & May 20
  • League Games – 9 Games on Mondays & Wednesdays from May 22 – June 19
  • League Tournament (Sunday, June 23) – RCLS?
  • Top 24 players get invited to play in an 8U Kid Pitch tournament in Iowa, June 28-30
    (Additional $100 per player)

    • Bring the Heat NIT (Des Moines, IA)
  • Teams can have additional practices on their own, if coaches choose to do so

Practices

  • Players show up 10-15 minutes early to stretch
  • Stations with pitching, catching, infield work, outfield work, base running, sliding/diving, hitting,
    specialty defense, etc.

Instructional Scrimmages

  • Players stretch & play catch 15 minutes before the scrimmage
  • Coach pitch scrimmaging with instruction on skills, decision making, flowing to the ball, covering bases, backing up bases, communication, etc.

League Games

  • Players show up 15-30 minutes early to stretch, play catch, and prepare for the game
  • Teams will rotate between White & Teal jerseys (White-Home team, Teal-Away team)
  • 60 feet bases & 40 feet mounds
  • Live player pitch games
    • Dropped 3 rd strikes are automatic outs
    • Home is always closed unless the ball is hit in play
    • 1st 3 League games
    • Coach pitches after 4 balls (No walks)
    • No stealing but players can lead off after the ball crosses home plate
    • All games after the 1 st 3 League games
    • Players can walk
    • Players can steal after the ball crosses home plate
  • 6 Innings or 1 hour 45 minute time limit (No new inning after 1 hour 30 minutes)

League Tournament (Sunday, June 23)

  • Seed according to the 9 game season league record
  • Semifinals: 1 vs. 4 & 2 vs. 3 ; Winners vs. Winners & Losers vs. Losers

Invite Tournament – 24 players, 2 teams (Cost $100)

  • We will try to make our final roster decisions by June 1 (After 3 League games)
  • At least one Heat coach will be the head coach for each team
  • Volunteer league coaches can help coach on the team that their son or daughter plays on. (Looking for at least 2 assistant coaches, per team)
  • We will look to reserve 25 hotel rooms ahead of time
  • We will need information on the players to fill out a USSSA roster including phone numbers, emails, birthdates, graduation year, etc.

Pitching & Catching Camps

  • Heat coaches will set up pitching & catching camps separate from this league. Cost for the
    camps will be $20 per camp day. (Usually 1-1.5 hour each day)
  • These camps will teach the basics of pitching & catching that will help build the foundation for
    them to have success at those positions.
