Travel Program

About the Travel Program

The Travel Program is designed to place players in an appropriate competition level while promoting development and high school affiliation when possible (except at AAA level). Tryouts are held for team formation. AAA, AA, and A players compete against community-based teams from across the state. Players who do not wish to tryout for a "traveling" team, or do not successfully evaluate for a AAA, AA, or A team, will be placed in the Southern Minny program.

The Travel Program is designed to provide players with the knowledge and skills necessary to eventually play baseball at the high school level. Teams meet multiple times per week for games or practice.

Travel Baseball includes 14-16 league games and 4-5 tournaments throughout the summer. Travel distances are usually around the Twin Cities Metro Region.  Players are required to try out for RYBA travel baseball. Attending one of two tryout weekends is required.

Age of Players

Your child's level of play is determined by their age on April 30, 2023. Players that are young for their grade have the option of signing up for the age group determined by their birthday OR playing with their 2022-2023 academic year grade.

At the 9U level only players as young as 7 as of April 30, 2023 are welcome to try out for the travel program.
If you are unsure about age there is an age calculator at:
https://www.usssa.com/baseball/ageCalculator
Example:
9U (3rd grade) - May 1, 2013 and no later than April 30, 2016
10U (4th grade) - May 1, 2012 - April 30, 2013
11U (5th grade) - May 1, 2011 - April 30, 2012
12U (6th grade) - May 1, 2010 - April 30, 2011
13U (7th grade) - May 1, 2009 - April 30, 2010
14U (8th grade) - May 1, 2008 - April 30, 2009

14U Team Formation

For the 14U age level, RYBA will organize teams around high school areas. This will foster team camaraderie for high school baseball programs. We expect to field four teams and based on player registrations may pool players from different high schools to achieve this objective. Note that players without a Rochester-based high school affiliation are welcome to participate in 14U travel baseball and will be assigned to a team based on tryout performance.
